What Should I Bring to My First Yoga Class?

Cozy room with green sofa, colorful cushions, and a blue rug. Curtains divide space, brick wall and wooden floor visible. Warm lighting.

Walking into your first yoga class can bring up a lot of questions, and one of the most common is: What do I need to bring? At Beyond Yoga, we intentionally create a space that feels approachable, warm, and welcoming for those beginning their practice.

While we do have yoga mats available to borrow, we always recommend bringing your own mat if you have one. Practicing on your own mat can help create a sense of familiarity and comfort as you settle into your practice. If you are unsure where to start, we are happy to offer recommendations, and we also have mats available for purchase in the studio.

We provide all of the props needed for class, including blocks, straps, bolsters, and blankets. If you already own props and prefer to bring your own, that is absolutely welcome as well. We encourage students to wear clothing that feels comfortable and easy to move in, allowing you to focus less on what you are wearing and more on how you are feeling within your body.

For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early so we can help you get settled into the space, answer any questions, and help you feel at ease before class begins. We offer water and tea in the studio and encourage you to take a few moments to slow down before stepping onto your mat.

Our classes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 15 students per class. This allows us to create a supportive environment where students can feel seen, welcomed, and comfortable moving at their own pace. The space itself is designed to invite you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with yourself in a gentle and supportive way.

Whether it is your very first yoga class or your first class in a long time, know that you are welcome exactly as you are.
