What Is Yoga Nidra?

At Beyond Yoga, Yoga Nidra is one of the most gentle and accessible practices we offer. Often referred to as “yogic sleep,” Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation practice that invites the body into deep rest while the mind remains softly aware. Unlike a movement-based class, most of the practice takes place lying comfortably on your mat with the support of blankets, bolsters, or pillows. Through guided awareness, breath, and relaxation techniques, the nervous system is given space to slow down and settle.
Many students are drawn to Yoga Nidra because of how calming and grounding the practice can feel. People often leave class feeling deeply rested, mentally clearer, and more connected to themselves. The practice may support stress reduction, relaxation, sleep quality, emotional regulation, and overall nervous system balance. In a world that constantly asks us to move faster, Yoga Nidra offers an opportunity to simply pause and be.
One of the beautiful things about Yoga Nidra is that it is accessible to almost everyone. No prior yoga experience, flexibility, or physical ability is needed. The practice can be supportive for beginners, individuals recovering from stress or burnout, those navigating anxiety, and anyone seeking rest in a supportive environment. At Beyond Yoga, we encourage students to make themselves as comfortable as possible and meet the practice exactly as they are.
We currently offer Yoga Nidra once each week at the studio as an opportunity to slow down, rest, and reconnect. Our classes are intentionally kept small to help create a calm and supportive environment where students can fully settle into the practice. Whether it is your first experience with meditation or a familiar part of your routine, all are welcome in the space.
